Melissa is only a short distance away from Dallas, but there are plenty of things to do locally, too! Visit the nearby Wales Manor, a winery which hosts wine tastings and live music, or check out Cathy's Critters, a nearby petting zoo with animals like kangaroos, sheep, goats, horses, and lots of bird species. Outdoor enthusiasts can visit Natural Springs Park to see nature in all its beauty. Melissa is home to Lola's Local Market, a place where locals go to buy the freshest produce. For those that enjoy golf, be sure to visit Topgolf, a nearby entertainment destination with a golf course, a bar, and a restaurant. Also nearby is Historic Downtown McKinney, which is full of beautiful architecture, antique shops, and independently-owned boutiques.
The city of Melissa is served by the Melissa Independent School District, which consists of four campuses: Harry McKillop Elementary, Melissa Ridge Intermediate School, Melissa Middle School, and Melissa High School. In Fall of 2019, the school district is planning to open the Melissa Ridge Education Center, which will focus on helping students of all ages with disabilities. For those interested in pursuing higher education, Collin County Community College, the University of Texas at Dallas, Brookhaven College, and Richland College are all within 30 miles of Melissa.
